As part of the planned refurbishment and expansion of the existing Huyton and Roby Stations, the client was keen to improve accessibility and safety, while also managing potential flooding issues in lower ground areas. The project had a tight nine-day window during which the stations would be shut, and so the client needed to partner with an M&E specialist company who could be relied upon to provide a quality finish to exacting standards, absolutely on time.
We installed new DNOs and complete distribution systems, as well as supplies, distribution, small power and lighting to three new lifts per station. In the subway and in the lift shaft we installed sump pump systems which included central alarm units, and on the station itself we installed new lighting for the platforms, canopies, waiting shelters, walkways and underpasses. This lighting scheme extended across new highway, street and subway lighting at Huyton and Roby, and our work also took in a full extension and upgrade of the existing CIS, CCTV, PA, PHP and DAP systems, as well as the installation of new fire alarm systems.
All work was successfully completed during the nine-day blockade, and both stations were reopened on time. The quality of the finished installations was such that the scheme was recognised at the Network Rail Partnership Awards 2015 with the award for ‘Best Large Project’.

Orton has proved a valuable asset on the project, providing a high quality install and paying real attention to detail. They have been proactive and flexible in their approach to work to accommodate the project’s requirements. I have no hesitation in recommending them to others needing a professional and knowledgeable E&P service.
