The Challenge

As part of the complete renovation of two nineteen storey blocks of social housing dwellings in Wolverhampton, there was a requirement for the complete remodelling of electrical and mechanical infrastructure within the properties, which were in an existing poor state of repair.

With the properties housing over 160 tenants in total, the main challenge faced was to undertake the works with minimum disruption to individuals and their families, and working with our project partners to facilitate a timely and smooth transfer to alternative temporary accommodation during the period of works.

The Solution

We gathered together a team of highly experienced electrical and mechanical engineers who remodelled and replaced the central boiler plant and heating infrastructure across all 228 properties within the block of flats.  In addition, all distribution, lighting, and power infrastructure was remodelled throughout.

The Orton M&E team also installed a Heat Interface Unit which was used to efficiently transfer heat from the central boiler plant to the heating and hot water system of each individual property.

The Outcome

Our team completed the project both on time and within budget, with the result being a higher quality of housing for current and future tenants of the residence, and higher levels of efficiency for the landlord.
